Book a transferPakistan is a country rich in history and culture, with Mughal forts, the Indus valley and high mountains in the north. Stays are among the cheapest in the region and the choice is wide: from simple hostels to 5-star hotels in the capital and Karachi. We list 6 526 properties across 222 cities. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular destinations, the season and how to get there.
The price depends on the city, the standard and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. Stays are cheap, and the gap between a simple hotel and a 5-star property can be large. In hill resorts like Murree, prices rise in the summer season.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Hostels and budget hotels | from approx. 3,600 PKR |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 9,000 PKR |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 17,500 PKR |
| 5-star and premium hotels | from approx. 32,000 PKR |

Travellers most often stay in the big cities of Punjab and Sindh and in the hill resorts. These are the destinations chosen most often:
Nightly rates vary between cities. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| City | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Karachi | from approx. 9,200 PKR |
| Lahore | from approx. 7,800 PKR |
| Islamabad | from approx. 10,600 PKR |
| Murree | from approx. 6,400 PKR |
| Faisalabad | from approx. 6,700 PKR |
This is a destination for those who value history, monuments and mountain scenery away from the crowds.
Daily costs are very low. A cheap meal is about 250 PKR (around 1.60 USD), a mid-range restaurant dish about 750 PKR. A local bus ticket is about 30 PKR. Cards are taken mainly at large hotels and chains, but cash rules everyday spending, so it helps to carry rupees (PKR).
The best time is from May to October, when it is warm and dry and the northern mountains are accessible. November can also be good value. Summer in the lowlands like Karachi and Lahore can be very hot, so hill resorts like Murree get busy and pricier then.
The three main international airports are Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, and the national carrier Pakistan International Airlines flies to over 50 destinations. Within the country, trains run in several classes and cheap long-distance buses (such as Daewoo) reach almost everywhere. In cities, rickshaws are common, with the fare negotiated before the ride (there are none in Islamabad). Domestic flights are operated by Airblue and PIA, among others, with PIA flying to the north, to Skardu, Chitral and Gilgit. Cars can be rented in the larger cities.
A few recognisable properties from different cities for reference:
Prices are low for most of the year, and the best value is outside the summer peak in the hill resorts. Most travellers come from May to October. Booking ahead helps you find a better rate, especially in season in Murree.
The most popular are Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, as they have the widest choice of hotels and the main airports. Lahore draws people for its monuments, Islamabad for its calm and Karachi for business and the coast.
The highest rates are at the 5-star hotels in Islamabad and Karachi. Cheaper stays are hostels, simple hotels and the smaller cities.
Only citizens of a few countries enter visa-free. Everyone else must get a visa before arrival, which is conveniently available online for over 170 countries. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
Cards are taken mainly at large hotels and chain venues. Everyday shopping, markets and transport are dominated by cash, so it helps to carry rupees (PKR).
