Book a transferThe Bahamas is an archipelago of hundreds of islands in the Atlantic, known for turquoise water, reefs and large all-inclusive resorts. It is an upper-tier holiday destination, so room prices are high. We list 458 properties across 67 areas: from apartments and guesthouses to large resorts and 5-star hotels. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular areas and tips on season and getting there.
The price depends on the standard, the island and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. The cheapest month is usually October, while March is the priciest. Booking ahead usually brings better rates.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Apartments and guesthouses | from approx. 65 $ |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 160 $ |
| 4-star hotels and resorts | from approx. 250 $ |
| 5-star and premium hotels | from approx. 450 $ |
Indicative rates, updated periodically. For exact prices and availability, select your dates in the search above.
The archipelago is vast, and properties cluster on a few islands:
Nightly rates vary between islands. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| Area | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Nassau | from approx. 160 $ |
| Freeport | from approx. 175 $ |
| Georgetown | from approx. 200 $ |
| Dunmore Town | from approx. 250 $ |
The islands' draws are their beaches, reefs and water-based fun.
Beyond the room, the islands are expensive. The currency is the Bahamian dollar, pegged one-to-one to the US dollar, and USD is accepted almost everywhere. Cards are in common use at resorts and restaurants. Meals and inter-island transport add to the budget, so factor them in upfront. ATMs are found in Nassau and Freeport.
The most pleasant weather is from June to September, but that is also hurricane season, so choose your dates carefully. The cheapest month for a room is October, while March is the most expensive, when crowds flock to the islands. Winter and early spring are the high season, with the best dry weather and the highest prices.
International flights land at Lynden Pindling Airport in Nassau and in Freeport on Grand Bahama, with frequent direct routes from the USA, Canada and the UK. The islands are also a common stop on cruises from Florida. Ferries, mail boats and water taxis run between the islands, and island hopping can be more convenient than domestic flights. In Nassau, private minibuses known as jitneys operate.
A few recognisable properties for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in October, while March is the most expensive. The weather is most pleasant in summer, but that is hurricane season. Booking ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
Most people stay in Nassau, the capital with the largest choice of hotels and the Atlantis resort on neighbouring Paradise Island. Stays here are also the cheapest on average.
Travellers from many countries enter visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
