|---|---|
| Yaounde | from approx. XAF 30,000 |

Beyond the room, daily costs are low. A week of groceries is about XAF 10,000 (approx. USD 17) and a transport ticket about XAF 250. The currency is the CFA franc. Cash is the basis for payments, ATMs are in the larger cities and cards are mainly taken by big hotels. It is worth carrying cash.
The most comfortable time is the dry season, roughly November to February, when roads are easier to use. November tends to be the cheapest month for stays and August the most expensive. The rainy season makes travel harder, especially inland.
The country has two international airports, in Douala and Yaounde (Nsimalen). Most flights from Europe land in Douala, including from Paris and Brussels. Camrail trains run on the Yaounde-Douala, Yaounde-N'Gaoundere and Douala-Kumba routes. City public transport relies on shared taxis, where the fare is agreed with the driver before the ride. Entry requires a visa and a yellow fever vaccination certificate.
A few recognisable properties for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in November, at the start of the dry season. August tends to be the most expensive. Booking ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most searched destination is Douala, the largest city and economic capital with the main airport. The capital, Yaounde, is also popular.
The highest rates are in the beach resort of Kribi. Among the popular cities, Yaounde is the cheapest.
Yes. Travellers of almost all nationalities need a visa, which must be obtained before arrival. A valid passport and a yellow fever vaccination certificate are also required.
Cash in CFA francs is the basis for payments. Cards are mainly taken by big hotels, and ATMs are in the larger cities. It is worth carrying cash, especially outside the main centres.
