Where to stay in Toledo: prices and the best time to book
Toledo stands on a hill inside a bend of the Tagus and fits entirely within its walls, so the choice of a bed comes down to one question: inside, or across the river. Within the walls you walk, because the streets are medieval and narrow and driving in is a trial. Anyone arriving by car usually picks a cigarral on the opposite slope, where there is somewhere to park. Free public escalators carry you up the hill from the lower stops, which your legs will thank you for. The city of three cultures left behind a Gothic cathedral, the Alcázar, synagogues and paintings by El Greco, and you leave the shops carrying either steel or marzipan. The list holds 573 places to stay. Below: cheaper dates, rates by property type and specific addresses with figures.
When Toledo is cheapest to book
The price list here works backwards compared with most cities. July is the cheapest month at around €74 a night, because summer in the Castilian basin pushes past 30 degrees and sightseeing turns into an effort, so visitors stay away. January drops lower still, more than half below average. December is the priciest at around €184, roughly two fifths above average. For weather, aim for spring, April through June, or autumn in September and October. Among the days of the week Wednesday is cheapest at about €98. The weekend costs clearly more than midweek, about €158 against €104, because Madrid is only 70 kilometres away and half the capital turns up on Saturday. Book well ahead, ideally some 87 days before arrival.
Nightly rates by property type
The range here is unusually wide for a city this size: from hostales in the side streets to a parador in a historic building and a riad with Arab baths. Rough nightly rates:
| Property type | Rough nightly rate (from) |
| 1-star hostal | from approx. €31 |
| 3-star hotel | from approx. €39 |
| Apartment in the centre | from approx. €40 |
| 4-star hotel | from approx. €52 |
| Boutique hotel | from approx. €63 |
| Riad with Arab baths | from approx. €90 |
| 5-star hotel | from approx. €100 |
| Parador in a historic building | from approx. €122 |
Rates are indicative, for a double room, and shift with dates and standard. The Casco Histórico, meaning everything inside the walls, is the most practical base, since the Alcázar and the cathedral are within walking distance. Hotels across the Tagus give you parking instead, plus the view of the city from the far bank. For real prices on your dates, enter them in the search above.

When Toledo gets pricier
December is the dearest month, which is unusual for a Spanish city. Winter brings back the weekend traffic from Madrid, and the holidays and processions do the rest. The second peak is Semana Santa before Easter, when processions move through the medieval streets, along with September and its Festival of the Three Cultures. Summer, by contrast, is cheap, because July heat above 30 degrees drives sightseers out of town. Spring and autumn give the best compromise: bearable weather, prices in the middle of the scale. Staying the night carries a bonus, because once the coaches leave the medieval streets empty out and the city looks like a different place.
