Mérida runs the opposite way to beach resorts. June is the cheapest, in the middle of the hot, humid summer, when rates drop to their lowest in the year. Most properties cluster in Centro, the colonial centre around Plaza Grande, where you find both the cheapest hostels and elegant casonas. The pricier and grander stays sit along Paseo de Montejo, the wide avenue with its former mansions. November to March is the most pleasant, in the dry season, when daytime temperatures are around 25 to 30 degrees. It is also the priciest period, so for lower prices and less heat aim for the months outside the peak, though summer can be hot and humid.
