Hotels in Marrakech: prices, timing and areas
Marrakech is Morocco's Red City, named after the colour of its sandstone walls. Its heart is the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a maze of narrow lanes and souks where it is easy to lose yourself among the scents of spices and argan oil. From here it is a short walk to Djemaa el-Fna square, where stalls serve tajine and couscous in the evening, and on to the Koutoubia minaret and the Bahia Palace. Guests stay about four nights on average and get around the Medina mostly on foot, as a car is no use here. Small petit taxis run across the city, usually without a meter, so agree the fare before you get in. This list has 8 563 properties, from a hostel bed to a traditional riad and palatial five stars. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Marrakech: the month and day of arrival, the choice of district and the standard of the property.
When to book a stay in Marrakech for less
The cheapest month is July, in high summer, when temperatures pass thirty-five degrees and there are fewer tourists, so hotels cut their rates. The priciest is December, when guests arrive for the holidays and the film festival, and rates can run more than twice the summer level. The day of the week also matters. The cheapest night is Monday, while you pay the most on Friday, at the start of the weekend, when the most short-break visitors arrive. Marrakech rewards booking ahead; you catch the best prices about two months out.
What a stay costs by property type
The range of prices here is huge, from a hostel bed to palatial houses behind the Medina walls. The cheapest sleep is in hostels and simple places; you pay the most for a riad with a pool and five-star hotels. Below are indicative nightly rates for two people.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Hostel bed | from approx. MAD 200 |
| Three-star hotel | from approx. MAD 530 |

Where a stay is cheaper and where it costs more
Most people look for a room in the Medina, in the heart of the old town near Djemaa el-Fna square, and in the modern Gueliz district with its restaurants and shops. The cheapest area is Mechouar-Kasbah, by the palaces in the south of the old town, while the dearest is the green Annakhil district with its gardens and golf courses on the edge of the city. Below are indicative rates for the cheapest and the dearest area.
| District | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Mechouar-Kasbah, by the palaces, the cheapest | from approx. MAD 1,970 |
| Annakhil, gardens and golf, the dearest | from approx. MAD 5,160 |

Which stay in Marrakech suits whom
- First time in Marrakech. The Medina near Djemaa el-Fna is most convenient. From here you can walk to the souks, the Koutoubia and the Bahia Palace without a taxi, with the square right on your doorstep in the evening.
- For families. Larger hotels with a pool and activities outside the old town, such as the Radisson Blu, give children space and things to do, and it is a short ride to the centre.
- For couples. Atmospheric riads in the Medina and boutique hotels in Gueliz, such as the 2Ciels Boutique Hotel & Spa, with a courtyard, a hammam and dinner on the terrace. Everything is close by in the evening.
- With breakfast. Many riads serve breakfast on the roof with a view of the minaret, which helps you set off early before the souks get crowded and hot.
- With a view. Hotels and riads with a terrace above the Medina rooftops give a panorama of the old town with the Koutoubia minaret behind. Handy for a short, atmospheric stay.
- Near the airport. Hotels closer to Menara airport are good for an early flight. The airport is close to the centre, so the transfer is short.

When Marrakech costs more
The dearest time is December, when guests arrive for the holidays and the international film festival, and riads and hotels fill up fast. It is also dear in spring, from March to May, and in early autumn, in September and October, the most pleasant weather of around the mid-twenties. The cheapest and quietest time is high summer, July and August, though you have to put up with heat above thirty-five degrees and sightsee early in the morning or in the evening.
