The country is compact, so history and nature are easy to combine in one trip.
The currency is the euro. Daily costs are lower than in Western Europe, with a public transport ticket about €1 and a cheap meal about €7. ATMs are easy to find, and cards are taken by larger places and shops, though cash is sometimes preferred in smaller spots.
Summer is the best time for the Baltic beaches and local festivals such as the Sea Festival in Klaipėda. It is also the price peak, especially in August. Autumn, from September to November, is cooler but good for music festivals, including jazz in Vilnius. November tends to be the cheapest month for a room.
Most flights from Europe land at Vilnius Airport, with airports in Kaunas and Palanga also in service. At weekends there are direct trains from Warsaw to Vilnius and Kaunas. By car, the easiest entry is from Poland or Latvia. Long-distance buses, including Eurolines and Lux Express, link the Baltics and Poland. DFDS Seaways ferries arrive in Klaipėda from Germany and Sweden. Trains and buses serve the country, and a public transport ticket costs about €1.
A few recognisable properties from different cities for reference:
