Visa and Mastercard work in the big cities, but it is worth carrying cash, as some places, including hotels, have no card machines. US dollars are widely accepted at hotels. ATMs are in the larger cities, though they do not always take foreign cards.

When is the best time to visit Argentina

The best times are February and March and September to November, avoiding the heat and humidity of high summer. Note that the seasons are reversed, with summer from December to February. June tends to be the cheapest month and November the most expensive. The Andean ski season runs from June to August.

Getting to and around Argentina

The main airport is Ministro Pistarini (Ezeiza) near Buenos Aires, with international connections. Cruise ships and a ferry from Uruguay also call at the capital. Within Buenos Aires the easiest way around is the Subte metro and the colectivo buses, which need a SUBE card. For longer trips, long-distance buses work well, with some overnight services offering sleeper seats. Domestic flights are run by Aerolíneas Argentinas and LATAM, useful over the long distances.
