StayApartment Relja„An exceptional apartment, it was very comfortable and within walking distance of everything, including the city center, beach, bus station, and shopping gallery…”Zadar is a seaside city in Dalmatia, with its Old Town on a peninsula, Roman ruins and a compact, walkable waterfront. This is where the Sea Organ plays and the Greeting to the Sun installation glows, while a few steps away stand the Roman Forum and St. Donatus Church. Guests usually stay three to four nights, mixing sightseeing with the beach and ferry trips to the islands. The peak runs through July and August, while spring and early autumn are milder and less crowded. This list has 2 356 properties, from a hotel room to an apartment near the beach. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Zadar: the month and day of arrival, the season and the standard of the property.
It is cheapest in February, off the seaside season, when prices can fall by more than half from the peak. August is the most expensive, at the height of summer, when the beaches and Old Town are at their busiest. The day of the week matters too: arriving on Saturday or Thursday is cheaper, while Friday tends to be noticeably pricier. The best prices come about two months ahead, especially for July and August when rooms vanish fast. A typical stay runs three to four nights.
The price spread in Zadar comes mainly from the standard of the property and the time of year. Two-star and budget rooms off-season are cheapest, while five-star hotels and beachfront properties at the height of summer cost the most. Below are rough nightly rates for two people.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Two-star or budget room | from about EUR 42 |
| Three-star hotel | from about EUR 80 |
| Four-star hotel | from about EUR 105 |
| Spa and wellness room | from about EUR 146 |
| Five-star hotel | from about EUR 253 |
Rates are indicative for a double room. In Zadar the gap between cheap February and the August peak, and between Thursday and Friday, can be large, so check the real price for your dates in the search box above.
The heart of the city is the Old Town on the Poluotok peninsula, with monuments, museums and boutique hotels, close to the Sea Organ, but prices there are the highest. The Borik area is a classic seaside resort district, while Diklo sits on the coast a little further from the centre. About twelve kilometres out lies Petrčane with resorts on Punta Skala. The Kolovare, Maestrala and Uskok beaches draw those who want the sea on the doorstep. The higher the standard, the closer to the Old Town and the closer to peak summer, the higher the price. For value, choose an off-holiday stay or a property a little further from the peninsula.
From a modest apartment to a five-star hotel with history, a few Zadar addresses with a from price. This is only a starting point, as rates in July and August can climb noticeably.
| Property | Category | Price per night (from) |
|---|---|---|
| Apartment or hostel in the centre | Budget | from about EUR 42 |
| Hotel Delfin | By the sea in Diklo, bike hire | from about EUR 80 |
| Hotel Porto | By the airport | from about EUR 85 |
| Hotel Mediteran | 10 min from the beach, near the centre | from about EUR 99 |
| Hyatt Regency Zadar | By Maestrala beach | from about EUR 111 |
| Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora | Family resort on Punta Skala | from about EUR 146 |
| Heritage Hotel Bastion | Five-star near the Old Town | from about EUR 253 |
From prices for a double room. In Zadar the rate for the same hotel in February and August can differ markedly, so check your exact dates in the search box.
August is the most expensive, at the height of the seaside season, when the Kolovare and Maestrala beaches and the Old Town are at their busiest and tourist traffic peaks. February and the off-holiday weeks are the cheapest and quietest. Spring from April to June and early autumn in September and October bring milder weather and a less crowded waterfront. This is a good time to see the Roman Forum and St. Donatus Church without queues and to take trips to the Plitvice Lakes and the Kornati archipelago. In summer, festivals such as the Zadar Summer Festival and the Maraschino Festival push prices up too.
It is cheapest in February, off the seaside season, when prices fall by more than half from the peak. August is the most expensive, at the height of summer, when the beaches and Old Town are at their busiest.
Arriving on Saturday or Thursday is the best value. Friday tends to be noticeably pricier. The gap between these days can be noticeable, especially in season.
It is cheaper away from the Old Town on the peninsula, for example in the Borik area, in Diklo or nearer the bus station. The highest prices are on the peninsula itself and by the beaches at the height of summer.
Most convenient in the Old Town on the peninsula, close to the Sea Organ, the Roman Forum and the monuments. You can walk everywhere, and Kolovare beach is not far.
The best prices come about two months ahead. For July and August, book even earlier, as rooms go quickly.
For the beach, the Hyatt Regency Zadar by Maestrala and properties in the Borik area work well. By the airport, Hotel Porto is handy for an early flight or a late arrival.
