Hotels in Plovdiv: prices and the best time to book
Plovdiv is Bulgaria's second-largest city and one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Europe, with a history counted in thousands of years. The heart of a stay is the Old Town on the hills, with the Roman Theatre of Philippopolis, an ancient stadium and timber-framed houses in the National Revival style. Right next to it lies Kapana, a former craftsmen's quarter, today a pedestrian zone full of galleries, cafés and studios. In the centre you stroll along the Tsar Simeon Garden with its Singing Fountains, and by the Maritsa River stands the Plovdiv International Fair ground. Prices depend heavily on the season and the day of the week, and the gaps can be wide. This list holds 678 properties, from hostels and apartments in the centre to boutique hotels in the Old Town and places with a spa. Below you will find the dates when rates drop, prices by room type and specific addresses with prices.
When booking in Plovdiv costs the least
The cheapest month is December, when off-season rates can fall by as much as four fifths compared with the peak. It is dearest in July, in the middle of the tourist and festival season, when prices rise sharply. Across the week Wednesday works out cheapest and Friday dearest, so starting your stay mid-week can noticeably cut the bill. Guests stay in Plovdiv two nights on average, as Europe's oldest city is seen over a weekend or as a stop along the way. Two or three days are enough to see the Roman theatre, walk the Old Town and spend an evening in Kapana, and if you plan a trip to the nearby vineyards, add one more. For the summer season and festival weekends, book earlier, as the best properties in the Old Town go first.
What a night costs by room type
In Plovdiv you can sleep in a simple room in the centre, in a family apartment, or in a boutique hotel in a historic Old Town house. Hostels and simple rooms in the centre are the cheapest, while a hotel with a spa or a boutique in a historic building costs the most. Indicative nightly rates for two, outside the summer peak:
| Room type | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Hostel or budget room in the centre | from approx. BGN 55 |
| Room for couples | from approx. BGN 130 |

Indicative rates for a double room, outside the summer peak, converted from leva and dollars. In the summer season and on festival weekends the same rooms are noticeably dearer, so check the real amount for your dates in the search above.
Where to stay in Plovdiv
For a first visit the handiest base is the centre or the Old Town. The Old Town puts you right by the Roman theatre and historic architecture, among cobbled lanes, and is the most atmospheric, though the climbs can be steep. Kapana, right next to it, is a pedestrian zone with galleries, cafés and restaurants, handy in the evening and the liveliest part. The centre around the Tsar Simeon Garden and the main pedestrian street is flat and best for families with a pushchair, close to the Singing Fountains and greenery. Those coming on business pick hotels nearer the Plovdiv International Fair ground by the Maritsa. You get around the centre mostly on foot, and buses, taxis and ride-hailing apps link the more distant points. Plovdiv airport lies about twelve kilometres from the centre.

When Plovdiv gets expensive
In Plovdiv the tourist season and the festival calendar drive the prices. Spring and summer are the busiest, with warm weather reaching thirty degrees, when events such as the Plovdiv Jazz Fest, Kapana Fest, the Night of Museums and the Plovdiv International Fair take place. It is dearest in July, at the height of the season. It is cheaper and quieter in winter, when the temperature drops to a few degrees, and the lowest rates fall in December. Early spring and late autumn are a good compromise: mild weather and prices lower than in summer. For the summer season and festival weekends, book earlier, and compare several dates for the best price, as the gaps between days of the week can be large.
