Hotels in Ohrid: prices and the best time to book
Ohrid is a historic town on Lake Ohrid in North Macedonia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its ancient amphitheatre, Byzantine churches such as Sveta Sofija and the Monastery of Saint Naum, and a crystal-clear lake. It is a destination for a lakeside holiday combined with sightseeing in the old town, hikes in the Galičica National Park and cuisine built on lake fish. Accommodation ranges from rooms and apartments, through intimate villas and hotels, to spa properties by the lake. Prices here are strongly seasonal: far higher in summer than in winter, when it tends to be cheapest. Our list covers 1 167 properties. Below you will find real nightly rates, the cheapest dates to book and a short guide to the area.
When to book for the lowest price
In Ohrid the lakeside season rules. It is cheapest off-season, in autumn and winter, with the biggest savings in November, when tourist traffic almost stops. It is priciest at the height of summer, in July, when the lake beaches are full and the town hosts the Ohrid Summer Festival of concerts and performances. The shoulder months are a good compromise of price and weather, May, June and September, when it is warm, cheaper and free of crowds. For a better price, book ahead, ideally about three months before you arrive, especially for July and the festival.
How much a stay in Ohrid costs by property type
Most of it comes down to the standard, the dates and the distance from the lake and the old town. A room or apartment is the cheapest, an intimate villa or hotel costs more, and a spa property by the lake or a higher-end one runs a multiple of the budget rate. The rates below are real starting prices per night, taken from current offers.
| Property type | Price per night (from) |
| Rooms and apartments | from approx. MKD 1,940 |
| Villas and 3-star hotels | from approx. MKD 3,570 |
| Spa and 4-star hotels | from approx. MKD 5,900 |
| Resorts and premium properties | from approx. MKD 7,470 |

Which hotel suits whom
- Families. Larger hotels and villas by the lake with space for children work well, such as Hotel Nova Riviera or Villa Mesokastro, near the beaches and a gentle entry to the water.
- Couples. For a romantic stay, intimate villas and spa properties work well, such as Lago Hotel & Spa, Boutique Villa Aura Ohrid or Hotel & Spa Tino Sveti Stefan, with lake views.
- In the old town. If you want the sights on your doorstep, choose properties in the historic centre, near the amphitheatre and the Sveta Sofija church, such as City Palace Hotel or Boutique Villa Arte.
- Budget. The cheapest stays are in rooms, apartments and hostels in the centre, such as Kubi Hotel, Apartman Ajan or Old Town Hostel Ohrid, close to the lake and transport.

Where to stay
Ohrid is small and compact, set on the lakeshore, so you get around mainly on foot. The handiest base is the historic centre and old town, where most of the properties, restaurants and sights cluster, such as the amphitheatre, the Sveta Sofija church and the fortress, with the waterfront and beaches a few steps away. Hotels and spa villas line the lakeshore, good for couples and families. Some properties sit in neighbouring Struga on the Black Drim river. You get around on foot, by taxi or by bike, and Ohrid is a good base for hikes in the Galičica National Park and trips to the Monastery of Saint Naum.
When Ohrid is more expensive
The season in Ohrid is set by the weather and the events calendar. The highest prices and the biggest crowds fall in July and August, when the swimming season is on at the lake and the town hosts the Ohrid Summer Festival of concerts and performances in historic venues. September also draws visitors for the Feast of St. Naum. It is cheapest and quietest in autumn and winter, and a good compromise of price and weather is May, June and September, when it is warm and free of crowds. A good time if you want a lower price and some peace.
