Hotels in Kosovo: your guide to where to stay

What to see in Kosovo

Kosovo combines Ottoman towns, medieval monasteries and mountains, so a trip fits easily into a few days.

  • Prizren old town. The stone bridge, the Sinan Pasha Mosque and the fortress above the city. The most photogenic spot in the country.
  • Pristina. The Newborn monument, the National Library and the cathedral. Lively cafes in the centre.
  • The monasteries. Visoki Decani and the Patriarchate of Peć are UNESCO-listed. Medieval frescoes in quiet valleys.
  • Rugova Canyon. Rock walls, trails and a via ferrata near Peja. A good base for trekking in the Prokletije range.
  • Brezovica. The country most popular ski resort, in the Sharr mountains. Cheap slopes and guesthouses in winter.

How much does a trip to Kosovo cost

Beyond the room, daily costs are among the lowest in Europe. A coffee costs around a euro, and a meal at a local restaurant a few euros. The currency is the euro, even though Kosovo is not part of the eurozone. Cards are accepted in hotels and larger venues, but cash matters at bazaars and in smaller places. ATMs are common in the cities.

When is the best time to visit Kosovo

The most pleasant time for sightseeing is May to September, when it is warm and dry. Summer can be hot in the valleys, but the evenings are pleasant. October is usually the cheapest in the price data, and March the most expensive. The ski season in Brezovica runs from December to March, when mountain prices rise.

Getting to and around Kosovo

International flights land at Pristina airport, the country only airport. Around Kosovo you travel mainly by bus, which links all the larger cities, and by minibus on shorter routes. Rail links are limited, so the bus is usually faster. Renting a car gives the most freedom for the mountains and the monasteries. Many travellers, including from the European Union, enter visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
