Book a transferSamoa is made up of two main islands in the South Pacific, Upolu and Savai'i, with rainforest, waterfalls and white-sand beaches. The accommodation base is small and centred on the capital, Apia, and the seaside villages. We list 80 properties across 21 places: from traditional beach fales to resorts with a pool. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular destinations, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the island and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. The cheapest month is usually May, while February at peak season is the priciest. Booking ahead usually brings better rates.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Fales and budget stays | from approx. 95 WST |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 165 WST |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 275 WST |
| 5-star resorts | from approx. 450 WST |

Most properties sit on Upolu island around Apia and along the south coast. Savai'i is quieter and more intimate. These are the destinations travellers choose most often:
Nightly rates vary between places. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| Place | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Apia | from approx. 150 WST |
| Lalomanu | from approx. 165 WST |
| Manase | from approx. 140 WST |
| Faleolo | from approx. 155 WST |
| Savai'i | from approx. 145 WST |
Samoa combines rainforest, beaches and the traditional fa'a Samoa culture, so it is easy to plan a trip across both islands.
Beyond the room, daily costs are moderate, though some goods are imported and pricier. A meal at a local restaurant costs a few tala per person, and traditional fales often include breakfast and dinner. Larger hotels take cards, but cash in tala matters at markets and in smaller places. ATMs are found mainly in Apia and at the airport.
The climate is warm and tropical. The dry season from May to October is the best and most popular time to visit, with temperatures around 25 to 30 degrees. May tends to be the cheapest, while February in the wet season is the most expensive in the price data. Expect more humidity and short downpours in the wet season.
International flights land at Faleolo Airport on Upolu, served by Samoa Airways, Air New Zealand and Fiji Airways among others. Apia is also a stop on cruise itineraries. Between Upolu and Savai'i you travel on Samoa Shipping Corporation ferries, with smaller boats to Manono island. Local buses run across the islands, which you flag down by waving and signal to stop by clapping. You can rent a car at the airport. Entry is visa-free for stays of up to 60 days with a valid return ticket.
A few recognisable properties from different parts of the country for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in May. February in the wet season tends to be the most expensive at the peak. Booking ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular destination is Apia on Upolu island. It has the widest choice of hotels and the best connections to the rest of the country.
The highest rates are at resorts with a pool on Upolu at peak season. Traditional fales and the quieter island of Savai'i, and the off-season, are cheaper.
Entry to Samoa is visa-free for stays of up to 60 days. You need a valid passport and a return or onward ticket. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
