Book a transferTunisia is a popular Mediterranean destination, combining beaches, Roman ruins and lively medinas. It is famous for seaside all-inclusive resorts, but also has a rich history and the desert in the south. The choice of stays is wide, from cheap rooms in the medina to large seaside resorts. We list 3 867 properties across 223 cities. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular destinations, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the city and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. The cheapest month is usually January, while August, at the peak of the beach season, is the priciest. Seaside resorts cost more than city hotels. Booking ahead usually brings better rates.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Medina rooms and budget stays | from approx. 75 TND |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 165 TND |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 290 TND |
| 5-star hotels and resorts | from approx. 510 TND |

Tunisia combines beaches with Roman history and the desert, so it is easy to match a trip to your interests.
Beyond the room, prices are moderate. A meal in a local restaurant is inexpensive, and the medina markets tempt with handicrafts. The currency is the Tunisian dinar, which cannot be taken out of the country, so settle your cash before leaving. Cards are taken by hotels and larger shops, while cash is handy in the medina and with taxi drivers. ATMs are in the cities and resorts.
The best time is spring from March to June and early autumn in September and October, when it is warm but not scorching. Summer can be very hot, especially in the south, and it is also the beach price peak. Winter is cooler and cheaper, good for sightseeing. Room prices are lowest in January and highest in August.
The main airport is Tunis-Carthage (TUN), with low-cost charter flights served by Enfidha-Hammamet, Monastir and Djerba. With Tunisair and budget carriers you can fly from many European cities. Ferries run from Italy, France and Malta. Around the country there are SNCFT trains, buses and fixed-price shared taxis called louage. Tunis has a metro and a light rail, and in the resorts you get around by taxi.
A few recognisable properties from different resorts for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in January, outside the beach season. August tends to be the most expensive. Booking a few weeks ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular are the resorts of Hammamet and Sousse with a wide choice of resorts, plus the capital Tunis for sightseeing.
The highest rates are at the seaside 5-star resorts at the height of summer. Rooms in the medinas and the off-season are cheaper.
Citizens of around fifty countries, including most European states, enter visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. A valid passport is required. Others must obtain a visa before arrival. The details depend on your citizenship.
Yes. Many properties offer pay-at-hotel and free cancellation. Cash in dinars is handy in the medina and with taxi drivers, and it cannot be taken out of the country.
