Book a transferThailand is one of the most popular destinations in Asia, combining lively Bangkok, the paradise beaches of the south and the calmer north around Chiang Mai. It is famous for cheap street food, temples and affordable prices. The choice of stays is huge, from hostels for a few dollars to luxury seaside resorts. We list 39 511 properties across 2593 cities. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular destinations, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the city and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. The cheapest month is usually June, while December, at the height of the season, is the priciest. Island resorts cost more than city hotels. Booking ahead usually brings better rates.

Thailand is among the cheapest destinations in the world. A meal at a street stall costs very little, and a full meal in a restaurant is cheap. The currency is the baht. Cards are accepted in hotels, malls and larger restaurants, but cash is handy at markets and in tuk-tuks. ATMs are everywhere, though they charge a fee on foreign withdrawals.
The best time is the cooler, dry months from November to March, which are also the price peak. From April it turns hot, and mid-year brings the rainy season, when rooms are cheapest. In April the whole country celebrates Songkran, the Thai New Year that ends in a huge water fight. On the islands, weather differs between the west and east coasts.
International flights land mainly at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok and at Phuket, with smaller airports serving Chiang Mai and Ko Samui. Around the country there are cheap domestic flights, comfortable State Railway trains and long-distance BKS buses. In the cities you get around by tuk-tuk, motorbike taxi and bus, and in Bangkok also by the BTS Skytrain and riverboat. Ferries reach the islands.
A few recognisable properties from different parts of the country for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in June, in the rainy season outside the peak. December and the dry season tend to be the most expensive. Booking a few weeks ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular destination is Bangkok, which has the widest choice of hotels and is the most common starting point for a trip around the country.
The highest rates are on the popular islands such as Ko Phi Phi, and in the best Bangkok hotels and resorts. Hua Hin, Chiang Mai and the off-season are cheaper.
Citizens of over sixty countries, including the European Union, enter visa-free or get a visa on arrival for stays of up to 30 days. A valid passport is required. The details depend on your citizenship.
