Book a transferSan Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world, surrounded entirely by Italy. Its historic centre sits on the slopes of Monte Titano, and the towers above the city are visible from afar. The choice of stays is small but comfortable. We list 62 properties across 5 towns: from hostels and guesthouses to 4-star hotels with a view over the valley. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular towns, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the location and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. The cheapest month is usually April, while June and midsummer are the priciest. Rooms with a valley view tend to cost more. Booking ahead usually brings better rates.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Hostels and budget stays | from approx. 42 € |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 68 € |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 110 € |
| Premium hotels with a view | from approx. 180 € |
Indicative rates, updated periodically. For exact prices and availability, select your dates in the search above.
Most properties cluster in the historic centre, but it is worth considering the smaller towns at the foot of the mountain too. These are the places travellers choose most often:
Nightly rates vary between towns. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| Town | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| San Marino (City) | from approx. 70 € |
| Borgo Maggiore | from approx. 58 € |
| Serravalle | from approx. 54 € |
| Domagnano | from approx. 44 € |
| Dogana | from approx. 50 € |
The country is small, so you can cover the main sights in one or two days. Most attractions sit within the walls on top of the mountain.
San Marino lives on tourism, so eating out can be on the pricier side. A restaurant lunch is roughly 25-30 €, while groceries are cheaper. Cards are accepted almost everywhere and ATMs are easy to find. The currency is the euro. The cable car up Monte Titano costs just a few euro.
The best weather runs from May to October, when temperatures reach about 18-24 degrees. July is especially popular thanks to the Medieval Days festival, which turns the old town into a medieval set. That is also the price peak. April is the cheapest and the weather is usually fine. Early autumn combines warm days with smaller crowds.
You cannot reach San Marino by plane or train, as the country has no airport or railway. The nearest airport and station are in Rimini, Italy. From there a direct bus number 72 runs to the centre, taking about 50 minutes and costing around 5 €. By car you arrive via the SS72 road from Rimini, crossing the border without checks. Regional buses link the towns, and a cable car climbs to the summit from Borgo Maggiore. The streets within the walls are narrow, so it is best to leave the car in a car park and explore on foot.
A few recognisable properties from different parts of the country for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in April, outside the height of summer. June and the Medieval Days festival in July tend to be the most expensive. Booking a few weeks ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular choice is the historic centre of San Marino on top of Monte Titano. This is where most hotels are and the closest to the three towers and the main squares.
The highest rates are in the historic centre, especially for rooms with a valley view. Staying in Domagnano, Serravalle and other towns at the foot of the mountain is cheaper.
San Marino has no border checkpoints and is entered from Italy. No visa or permit is required for stays of up to 10 days. A longer stay needs an official permit. Schengen Area rules apply for Italy itself.
