Accommodation is wide-ranging: from hostels and campsites to chain hotels and 5-star properties. We list 13 540 properties across 2215 cities. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular cities, the season and how to get there.
The price depends on the city, the standard and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. Sweden is expensive, but hostels and campsites cut costs. Prices are highest in Stockholm, and cheaper outside the summer season and the holiday period.

| Hostels and budget stays | from approx. 480 SEK |

Most travellers choose the three largest cities and the north. These are the destinations chosen most often:
Nightly rates vary between cities. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| City | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Stockholm | from approx. 1,050 SEK |

The country combines cities, islands and the far north, so it is easy to match a trip to the season.
The currency is the Swedish krona (SEK). Sweden is almost cashless, cards work everywhere, though smaller vendors prefer cash and ATMs are available. A meal is about 100 SEK at a cheaper restaurant and up to 300 SEK at a pricier one. A city bus ticket is about 20 SEK, and a 24-hour card about 130 SEK.
Summer with long days and Midsummer's Eve in June is the peak season for the cities and the archipelago. November brings a film festival, the Gamla Stan Christmas market and the best time for the Northern Lights in the north. Winter is dark and cold, but it is the time for skiing and the ice hotel. It is cheapest outside summer and the holidays.
Most international flights land at Stockholm Arlanda, with airports in Gothenburg, Malmö and Skavsta too, served by SAS, Norwegian and Ryanair, among others. You can reach the country by train from Germany, Denmark and Norway, with trains from Copenhagen every 20 minutes. Within the country, SJ trains are the most convenient (Interrail and Eurail accepted), along with FlixBus coaches. Cities have trains and buses on shared tickets. SAS and Braathens operate domestic flights.
A few recognisable properties from different cities for reference:
It is cheapest outside the summer peak and the holiday period, for example in late autumn and winter outside the breaks. Summer and December are the most expensive. Booking ahead helps you find a better rate, especially in Stockholm.
The most popular destination is Stockholm, the capital with the widest choice of hotels and the arrival point. Gothenburg and Malmö follow.
The highest rates are at the 5-star hotels in central Stockholm. Cheaper stays are hostels, campsites and the smaller cities.
Sweden is part of the European Union and the Schengen Area, so citizens of those countries enter with an ID card or passport. Travellers from many other countries, including the US, can enter visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
