Book a transferThe Solomon Islands are a Melanesian archipelago in the Pacific, a destination for divers and World War II history lovers, with lagoons, wrecks and pristine nature. Accommodation is limited, from simple lodges to a few island resorts. We list 33 properties across 12 cities. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular places, the season and how to get there.
The price depends on the place, the standard and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. Choice is small and most goods are imported, so island resorts can be expensive. Rates are usually lowest in January and highest in August, at the peak of the diving season.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Lodges and budget stays | from approx. SBD 300 |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. SBD 640 |

This is a destination for ocean, diving and history lovers, away from mass tourism.
The currency is the Solomon Islands dollar (SBD). Prices can be high because most goods are imported. Cards are taken mainly at larger hotels in Honiara, where there are ATMs too. Outside the capital cash rules, so it is better to arrive with a supply in SBD. A meal at a simple place is a few dozen SBD.
The climate is tropical, hot and humid all year. It is easiest to travel in the drier season, roughly from May to October, when diving is most pleasant. Booking is cheapest in January and most expensive in August, at the peak of the season. The wet season brings heavy rain.
You reach the country at Henderson International Airport near Honiara, with connections from Brisbane, Nadi and Port Moresby, among others. Between the islands, national carrier Solomon Airlines flies, and there are boats and ferries too. In Honiara you get around by minibus and taxi. Sea distances can be large, so it is best to base an island trip on domestic flights and resort-arranged boat transfers.
A few recognisable properties for reference:
Rates are usually lowest in January, in the rainy season. August is the most expensive, at the peak of the dry season and the diving. Booking ahead helps you find a better rate, especially at the island resorts.
Most stays are booked in Honiara, the capital and arrival point. From here it is easiest to head out to the diving islands like Gizo and Munda.
The highest rates are at the islet resorts and the better hotels in Honiara. Cheaper stays are simple lodges in Gizo and Munda.
Citizens of many countries get an entry permit on arrival for a tourist stay, with a valid passport and a return ticket. The exact rules depend on your citizenship, so check before you travel.
Cards are taken mainly at larger hotels in Honiara, where there are also ATMs. Outside the capital cash dominates, so it helps to carry Solomon Islands dollars (SBD).
