Book a transferMauritius is an Indian Ocean island famous for turquoise water, white beaches and coral reefs, with mountains and gardens inland. You stay here in lagoon resorts and beachfront hotels. We list 4 108 properties across 150 places. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular destinations, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the beach and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. It is priciest in the European winter, when the island is in summer. All-inclusive resorts cost more than inland hotels.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Guesthouses and budget stays | from approx. 1,500 MUR |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 3,200 MUR |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 5,500 MUR |
| 5-star resorts | from approx. 10,000 MUR |
Indicative rates, updated periodically. For exact prices and availability, select your dates in the search above.
The choice of where to stay revolves around the coasts and beaches, each with its own character. These are the destinations travellers choose most often:
Nightly rates vary between places. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| Destination | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Grand Baie | from approx. 3,600 MUR |
| Flic en Flac | from approx. 3,200 MUR |
| Belle Mare | from approx. 5,200 MUR |
| Le Morne | from approx. 5,800 MUR |
| Port Louis | from approx. 2,800 MUR |
The island combines beaches with mountains and nature, so time splits between the water and the interior.
Beyond the room, daily costs are moderate. A local meal is around 250 MUR. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and tourist shops, and ATMs are in the larger towns. Some cash (rupee) is handy at markets and in smaller places.
The nicest time is May to December, when it is dry and warm without heat. The wetter, warmer season runs from January to April. September and October are a good balance of weather and price, while the European winter is peak season with the highest rates.
Flights use Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport near Mahebourg, and the national carrier is Air Mauritius. Around the island you travel by bus, taxi and rental car (driving on the left). Distances are short, so you can circle the whole island in a few hours, and most resorts arrange airport transfers.
A few recognisable properties from different coasts for reference:
Prices are lowest outside the European winter, usually from May to November. They are highest in December and January, at peak season. Booking ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most common choice is Grand Baie in the north, known for its beaches and life, and Flic en Flac in the west. They offer the widest choice of hotels.
The highest rates are at the luxury resorts on the east coast and at Le Morne. Port Louis and guesthouses off-season are cheaper.
Citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, the European Union and the UK do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. A valid passport and a return or onward ticket are required. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
