Book a transferMoldova is a small country between Romania and Ukraine, known for world-class wine and a calm, still off-the-beaten-path feel. Room prices are among the lowest in Europe. We list 1 880 properties across 84 cities: from hostels and guesthouses to 5-star hotels in Chisinau. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular destinations, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the city and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. Winter is usually cheapest, while summer is the priciest, when the streets turn into festivals. Most properties are concentrated in the capital.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Hostels and budget stays | from approx. 480 MDL |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 880 MDL |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 1,300 MDL |
| 5-star and premium hotels | from approx. 2,300 MDL |

Tourism centres on the capital, but wine villages and regional towns have their own properties too. These are the destinations travellers choose most often:
Nightly rates vary between cities. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| City | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Chisinau | from approx. 880 MDL |
| Balti | from approx. 700 MDL |
| Comrat | from approx. 790 MDL |
| Purcari | from approx. 1,280 MDL |
| Milestii Mici | from approx. 840 MDL |
The country combines greenery, heritage and wine culture, so a trip is easy to tailor to your own interests.
Beyond the room, daily costs are very low. A meal in a standard restaurant is about 200 MDL, a beer 20-30 MDL, and a trolleybus or bus ride costs only a few lei. Large hotels and restaurants take cards, but taxis, cafes and public transport are often cash only. ATMs are in the cities and card payments are slowly spreading.
The most pleasant time is May to August, when temperatures reach 22-28°C and humidity is low. This is the season of festivals and lively parks. October brings the grape harvest and National Wine Day in Chisinau, a great moment for wine lovers. Winter is cheaper but cold.
International flights use Chisinau airport, with direct routes from Bucharest, Istanbul, Warsaw and low-cost links from several European cities. Trains arrive from Bucharest (an overnight service) and from Ukraine. Buses run cheaply and conveniently from Kyiv, Odesa and Romanian cities. Around the country you mostly travel by minibus (marshrutka) and bus, while Chisinau also has a trolleybus network. A single ticket costs just a few lei.
A few recognisable properties in Chisinau for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in winter, outside the summer season and the grape harvest. They are highest in summer, when cities host festivals, and in October during Wine Day. Booking ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular destination is Chisinau, where most hotels in every standard are concentrated. It is also the most convenient base for trips to the wineries and Old Orhei.
The highest rates are in central Chisinau and at hotels by the famous wineries. Balti and smaller regional towns are cheaper.
Citizens of the European Union, the USA, Canada, Australia and many other countries can stay in Moldova visa-free for up to 90 days. Nationals of countries without a visa exemption must obtain a visa before travelling. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
