Book a transferLiechtenstein is one of Europe's smallest states, wedged between Switzerland and Austria on the Rhine. Mountain backdrops, fairytale castles and trails draw lovers of nature and history. The choice of stays is small but varied. We list 61 properties across 14 towns: from hostels and guesthouses to 4- and 5-star hotels. Below you will find indicative prices, destinations, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the town and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room in Swiss francs, the local currency. Summer is usually the cheapest, February the priciest at the peak of the ski season. Prices are above the European average, as the country borders Switzerland.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Hostels and budget stays | from approx. CHF 90 |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. CHF 135 |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. CHF 190 |
| 5-star and premium hotels | from approx. CHF 320 |

The country is small, so any base reaches the rest easily. These are the towns travellers choose most often:
Nightly rates vary between towns. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| Town | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Vaduz | from approx. CHF 135 |
| Triesenberg (Malbun) | from approx. CHF 110 |
| Schaan | from approx. CHF 105 |
| Schellenberg | from approx. CHF 120 |
Despite its tiny size, the country combines monuments, art and mountains.
The currency is the Swiss franc (CHF). The country is expensive: a meal for two costs around CHF 80 and daily groceries about CHF 25. ATMs are common and large hotels and restaurants take cards. Many stays include breakfast.
The country works all year round. In summer it is a base for hiking and cycling, in winter for skiing in Malbun. The highest prices fall in February at the peak of the ski season, while summer, around July, is the cheapest. Spring and autumn are quiet and good for visiting castles without crowds.
The country has no airport. The nearest international one is Zürich in Switzerland, about 120 km from Vaduz. Trains stop only in Schaan, on the route between Buchs (Switzerland) and Feldkirch (Austria). The most convenient way in is by bus: line 11 links Sargans with Schaan and Vaduz, line 12 runs from Buchs and line 14 from Feldkirch in Austria. Buses move around the country smoothly, and the short distances mean you can walk or cycle parts of the way.
A few recognisable properties for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in summer, around July. February at the peak of the ski season tends to be the most expensive. Booking ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular base is the capital, Vaduz. It has the most hotels, museums and attractions within walking distance, and the rest of the country is easy to reach from there.
Yes. The only ski resort is Malbun in the municipality of Triesenberg. It is smaller and less crowded than the slopes in neighbouring Switzerland and Austria, with a winter season.
Liechtenstein is part of the Schengen Area. Travellers from other Schengen countries enter with an ID or passport, while citizens of the US, Canada and Australia, among others, do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
Yes. Many properties offer pay-at-hotel and free cancellation. The terms are shown for each property during booking.
