Book a transferSaint Lucia is a volcanic Caribbean island, famous for the twin Pitons and rainforests that run down to the turquoise sea. It is a destination for a romantic getaway and a relaxed holiday, with hotels from modest guesthouses to luxury resorts. We list 552 properties across 40 cities. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular destinations, season tips and transport notes.
The price depends on the standard, the city and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room in East Caribbean dollars, the local currency. September is usually the cheapest month, December the priciest. The lowest room rate recently started at around 80 XCD, though luxury resorts can cost many times more.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| 2-star hotels and budget stays | from approx. 120 XCD |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. 255 XCD |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 510 XCD |

The island splits into the busy north with the capital and the quieter, pricier south. These are the destinations travellers choose most often:
Nightly rates vary between cities. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| City | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Castries | from approx. 340 XCD |
| Rodney Bay | from approx. 360 XCD |
| Gros Islet | from approx. 370 XCD |
| Soufrière | from approx. 720 XCD |
| Vieux Fort | from approx. 135 XCD |
The island is small, so a base by the sea is easy to combine with trips inland.
The local currency is the East Caribbean dollar (XCD). Food can be cheap, with a meal costing a few US dollars and a loaf of bread about $0.70. Hotels and restaurants take cards, but street stalls and markets are cash only. ATMs are in the larger towns.
The climate is tropical and warm all year. The best time is the dry season, from January to April. That is also when prices are highest, with December the peak. September is the cheapest, but it falls in the rainy season and the hurricane-risk period. Booking ahead helps you catch a better rate.
Most long-haul flights land at Hewanorra Airport (Vieux Fort) in the south, while George F. L. Charles by Castries handles regional routes. Ferries also arrive from the Caribbean, including from Martinique (1.5h) and Dominica. Around the island, local minibuses are the easiest option, running between Castries, Soufrière and Vieux Fort, with a ticket costing about $1.50-3.70. Taxis have no meters, so agree the fare with the driver. A rental car gives you the freedom to reach the more remote corners.
A few recognisable properties from different parts of the island for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in September, in the rainy season. December and the dry season from January to April tend to be the most expensive. Booking ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular destination is the capital, Castries. It has the best transport and the widest choice of hotels and car rentals.
On average the cheapest stays are in Rodney Bay in the north. The highest rates are in Soufrière at the foot of the Pitons, where the luxury resorts cluster.
European Union citizens can enter visa-free for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, while travellers from the US, Canada and the UK, among others, can stay for up to 42 days. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
