Where to stay in Kuwait: most popular districts

Most properties cluster in the capital area and the coastal districts. These are the destinations travellers choose most often:

• Kuwait City. The heart of the country, with the Kuwait Towers, the Mubarakiya souk and the widest choice of hotels.
• Salmiya. A coastal district with shopping malls, restaurants and resorts by the Gulf.
• Fahaheel. The southern part of the metro area, with the Al Kout centre and family hotels.

Food can be relatively cheap: a meal in a standard restaurant is about 2 KWD (6.60 USD). Cash is preferred for transactions under 30 KWD (100 USD), and cards are widely accepted in hotels and better venues. A data SIM card costs around 5 KWD.

When is the best time to visit Kuwait

Summer can be unbearably hot, so the peak season is late winter, from January to April, when temperatures are bearable. April is usually the cheapest, December the priciest. Spring suits sightseeing in the city and along the coast.

Getting to and around Kuwait

International flights land at Kuwait International Airport, served by the national carrier Kuwait Airways with direct routes from Paris, London and Frankfurt among others. You can also arrive by bus or car from Saudi Arabia. Buses run across the city (KGL, KPTC, City Bus), though schedules can be irregular. Renting a car needs an International Driving Permit, and the coastal highways are the most pleasant to drive.
