A train from Moscow runs weekly (about a three-day journey), and there are buses from Almaty in Kazakhstan and Tashkent in Uzbekistan. A few recognisable properties from different cities for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in December and October, outside the peak mountain season. April tends to be the most expensive. Summer is dearer but is the best time for trekking.

The highest rates are in the chain hotels in Bishkek. The cheapest stays are in guesthouses, hostels and yurt camps in smaller towns.
