The currency is the lempira. Cards are widely accepted and ATMs are easy to find, while cash is handy for small purchases. A meal at an affordable restaurant is about 5 USD, and basic groceries for a few days run a few dollars. Prices are among the lower ones in the region.
The climate is tropical, with the dry season running from November to April. Temperatures depend on altitude, from about 20 degrees in the mountains to 32 on the coast. November is usually the cheapest month and March the priciest. On the islands, the best diving conditions fall outside the rainy season.
International flights land in San Pedro Sula, on Roatan and in Tegucigalpa. Long-distance buses link the country with Guatemala (Hedman Alas) and Nicaragua and El Salvador (Tica Bus). There is also a ferry from Belize to Puerto Cortes. Within the country, city minibuses known as rapiditos and intercity buses are cheap and fairly efficient. Domestic flights by Avianca and Aerolineas Sosa connect the large cities as well as Roatan and Utila. Renting a car is possible, with major companies at the airports, and traffic drives on the right.
