Book a transferGuinea lies on the Atlantic in West Africa, its landscape made up of coast, the Fouta Djallon highlands and tropical forests. Most properties are concentrated in the capital. We list 43 properties across 8 cities: from guesthouses to upper-tier hotels in Conakry. Below you will find indicative prices, the destinations travellers choose most, and notes on season and transport.
The price depends on the standard, the location and the dates. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room. The cheapest month is usually February, while July in the rainy season is the priciest. Booking ahead usually brings better rates.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Guesthouses and budget stays | from approx. GNF 260,000 |
| 3-star hotels | from approx. GNF 600,000 |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. GNF 940,000 |
| 5-star and premium hotels | from approx. GNF 1,500,000 |

Accommodation is concentrated in the capital and a few larger towns. These are the destinations travellers choose most often:
Nightly rates vary between towns. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| City | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Conakry | from approx. GNF 480,000 |
| Kindia | from approx. GNF 370,000 |
| Nzerekore | from approx. GNF 390,000 |
| Labe | from approx. GNF 350,000 |
| Coyah | from approx. GNF 330,000 |
The country combines coast with mountains and forest, so a trip plan depends mainly on the season.
Beyond the room, daily costs are low. A meal at a cheap eatery is the equivalent of well under a dollar, and a mid-range restaurant about ten. Cards are rarely accepted and most transactions are in cash, so it is worth exchanging money at the airport or before the trip. ATMs are few.
Guinea is one of the wettest countries in West Africa, with most rain falling in July and August. From December to March the dusty Harmattan wind blows. The best time to travel is between these periods, in October and November, when it is dry but not yet dusty.
Most flights land in Conakry, served by airlines such as Royal Air Maroc, Air France, Brussels Airlines and Turkish Airlines. Overland, you can enter from Sierra Leone, Senegal, Mali and Liberia, though some crossings only work in the dry season. There are no buses or trains in the country, and transport relies on shared taxis known as taxi brousse. Taxis are cheap and often hired for a full day on longer trips.
A few recognisable properties from the capital and around for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in February, in the dry season. July, in the middle of the rainy season, tends to be the most expensive. Booking a few weeks ahead usually helps you find a better rate.
The most popular destination is the capital, Conakry, where most hotels in every standard are found. Outside it, accommodation is more limited.
The highest rates are at upper-tier hotels in Conakry. Guesthouses outside the capital, for example in Kindia or Labe, are cheaper.
Yes, most travellers must obtain a visa from an embassy before travelling, as it is not available at the airport or the border. Proof of yellow fever vaccination is also required on arrival. The exact rules depend on your citizenship.
