Ghana combines beaches, history and nature, so it is easy to match a trip to your interests.
Daily costs are moderate. A meal in a local restaurant costs only a few dollars per person. Cards are mainly accepted by large hotels and restaurants in Accra, while cash rules day to day. ATMs are in the larger cities and some accept foreign cards. It is worth carrying cash outside the big centres.
The most comfortable time is the dry season, roughly from November to March. July tends to be the most expensive, September the cheapest. The climate is hot and humid all year, and during the rainy season (roughly April to June and September to October) roads in the interior can be harder going.
The main airport is Kotoka in Accra, served by carriers including Emirates, Air France, KLM and Delta. Around the country there are tro-tros (shared minibuses) and more comfortable air-conditioned long-distance coaches (such as VIP Jeoun). Africa World Airlines domestic flights link Accra with Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale. City taxis are cheap and easy to catch. A visa is required for Ghana and must be arranged before travel.
