November tends to be the cheapest and June the most expensive. Mid-summer can be humid and hot, especially in the lowlands. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant for sightseeing, while skiing in Svaneti is best in winter. For the Black Sea in Batumi, summer is the time to go.

Getting to and around Georgia

International flights land in Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi, with direct routes from Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Trains run from Azerbaijan and Armenia, and a cheap bus from Istanbul takes about 20 hours. Buses cover the country, with modern, comfortable ones on the Tbilisi to Batumi route. Tbilisi has a two-line metro, and a ticket costs next to nothing. Intercity trains are old but cheap. A rental car gives freedom in the mountains, though roads can be harder in winter.
