The main draw is wild nature, and the national parks cover a large part of the country.
Upper-tier hotels take cards, but elsewhere cash is the main payment. ATMs are scarce and often accept only Visa, so it is worth exchanging currency before the trip and carrying cash. A transport ticket is about $0.35, and a day of groceries about $13. Car rental starts at about $67 per day.
November tends to be the cheapest and August the most expensive. The climate is equatorial and humid all year. The dry season makes park trips easier, and from November to February you can see leatherback turtles on the coast. Note that the days are warm whatever the month.
International flights land at Léon M'ba airport in Libreville, about 12 kilometres from the centre. Direct routes are usually from Paris and other African countries, while from elsewhere you should expect at least one layover. The SETRAG railway runs four times a week between Owendo near Libreville and Franceville. SOGATRA buses link Libreville with the larger cities, and taxis and minibuses run within the cities. To explore the country, it is best to rent a 4x4, often with a driver.
A few recognisable properties for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in November and highest in August. A booking at the start of the week is often cheaper. The dry season also makes national park trips easier.
