Fiji splits into the air gateway, the capital and the resort islands. These are the destinations travellers choose most often:

• Nadi. The main gateway with the international airport and a base for the islands. The most hotels in one place.
• Suva. The capital and largest city, the most searched destination, with museums and a city market.
• Denarau Island. A cluster of chain resorts close to Nadi, popular with families and couples.
• Malolo Island. The Mamanuca group with beach resorts, from simple to top-tier on private islands.

What to see in Fiji

When is the best time to visit Fiji

The best time is the dry season, from May to October. It is technically winter on the islands, but days are still warm and humidity is lower. May tends to be the cheapest and March the most expensive. The wet season from November to April brings more rain and higher humidity, though it can still be sunny.

Getting to and around Fiji

Flying is the most common way to arrive, and Fiji has two international airports, in Nadi and Suva. The national carrier Fiji Airways flies nonstop to over 20 destinations across the Pacific, the USA, Asia and Australia. Ferries run between the islands, including South Sea Cruises, while Fiji Link and smaller operators fly across the archipelago, some by seaplane. Buses cover the larger islands cheaply, though slowly, so allow extra time. Car rental needs a licence from an English-speaking country or an international permit.
