Beyond the room, daily costs are moderate. A meal at a good restaurant is about CVE 1,600 (approx. USD 16) and a city bus ticket about CVE 45. The currency is the escudo, pegged to the euro. Cards are mainly taken by hotels and larger venues, so it is worth carrying cash elsewhere. ATMs are in the larger towns.
The climate is warm and dry for most of the year, which suits travel in any season. Price data suggests October tends to be the cheapest and February the most expensive. The wind on Sal and Boa Vista favours water sports, especially in winter.
International airports are on four islands: Sal, Boa Vista, Sao Vicente and Santiago. Direct flights connect Lisbon, Madrid and Dakar among others, operated by TAP, TUI and local airlines. Domestic flights and ferries link the islands. On land, the mainstay is the minibuses known as "yasi", whose schedules align with flights and ferries, at a low fare. Many travellers register online and pay an airport fee instead of a visa before arrival; the rules depend on your citizenship.
