Book a transferSaint Barthelemy (St Barth) is a small Caribbean island that belongs to France, known for its luxury villas, sheltered bays and intimate beaches. It is a high-end destination, so room prices are steep and the choice is short and exclusive. We list 392 properties across 13 areas: from ocean-view apartments to top 5-star hotels and villas with a pool. Below you will find indicative prices, the most popular areas and tips on season and getting there.
St Barth is one of the most expensive islands in the Caribbean. The table shows indicative nightly rates for a double room or apartment. The cheapest months are usually July and August, while December and January are the priciest. The number of properties is limited, so booking well ahead matters here in particular.
| Property standard | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Apartments and studios | from approx. 240 € |
| Mid-range hotels and guesthouses | from approx. 400 € |
| 4-star hotels | from approx. 650 € |
| 5-star hotels and villas with a pool | from approx. 1,200 € |
Indicative rates, updated periodically. For exact prices and availability, select your dates in the search above.
The island is small, so most properties cluster around the capital and a handful of bays:
Nightly rates vary between areas. Here are indicative prices per night for a double room:
| Area | Indicative price per night (from) |
|---|---|
| Gustavia | from approx. 430 € |
| Grand Cul-de-Sac | from approx. 400 € |
| Saint-Jean | from approx. 480 € |
| Grande Saline | from approx. 600 € |
The island's draws are its beaches, yachts and French flair in the Caribbean.
Beyond the room, the island is expensive. A restaurant meal costs well above the rest of the Caribbean, closer to Western European prices. The currency is the euro and cards are accepted almost everywhere. ATMs are found in Gustavia and Saint-Jean. Some purchases (alcohol, cosmetics) are cheap thanks to the island's duty-free status.
The weather is good year round, but the peak season and highest prices are in December and January, around Christmas and New Year. The cheapest months for a room are July and August. The Caribbean hurricane season runs from June to November, with more risk in September and October. Spring is a good compromise between weather and price.
The island has its own small airport (Gustaf III, code SBH) that only takes small aircraft. Most people arrive from Sint Maarten (SXM airport) on a short local flight (St-Barth Commuter, Winair) or by ferry (such as Great Bay Express or Voom) in about 30 to 45 minutes. The easiest way to get around is a small rental car or scooter, as taxis are few. Distances are short, but the roads are narrow and steep.
A few recognisable properties for reference:
Prices are usually lowest in July and August. December and January, around Christmas and New Year, are the most expensive. The number of properties is small, so book well ahead for attractive rates.
Most people stay in Gustavia, the capital and yacht harbour with the widest choice of hotels and apartments. The Saint-Jean beach and the Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon are popular too.
Saint Barthelemy is a French overseas territory. Rules similar to Schengen entry apply, so travellers from many countries do not need a visa for a short stay. The exact rules depend on your citizenship, and the route usually runs via Sint Maarten.
