A meal at a no-frills restaurant is about 6.50 dollars, a SIM card with a data bundle about 16 dollars. Everyday transactions are best paid in cash, though hotels and restaurants take cards. The currency is the Bahraini dinar, one of the strongest currencies in the world. Car rental starts at about 15 dollars a day.
The climate is hot and dry, so the best time is winter, from November to April, when temperatures are milder and rain is rare. In summer the heat is intense, which means lower room prices.
International flights land at Bahrain International Airport, with connections from the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Buses run from Dammam in Saudi Arabia. Around the island there are buses and Uber, with tickets costing only cents. Distances are short, so renting a car is convenient, and roads have signs in English and Arabic. GPS navigation is handy.
