Bangladesh combines cities, nature and heritage, so it is easy to match a trip to your interests.
It is one of the cheapest countries. A meal at a local restaurant is about 1.75 dollars, a rickshaw ride starts at about 0.30 dollars. Cards are mainly accepted in Dhaka, while cash is better outside the capital. ATMs are in the larger cities, though not all take foreign cards. The currency is the taka.
The best time is the cooler season from November to March, when temperatures are moderate. Summer brings the monsoon with heavy rains, which makes travel harder. The seaside and island season falls in winter.
The main airport is Shah Jalal in Dhaka, with carriers such as Emirates, Turkish Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Trains and buses run from Kolkata in India. Within the country, rickshaws cover short trips, Intercity trains and long-distance buses such as Green Line run between cities. Car rental usually comes with a driver, as self-driving is difficult. Domestic flights are operated by Biman Bangladesh, Novoair and US-Bangla.
