  • Kissama National Park. A vast reserve with safaris where you can see elephants, zebras, giraffes and antelopes.
  • Mussulo. A peninsula with sandy beaches and a laid-back feel, with bars and restaurants by the water.
  • Kalandula Falls. One of the largest waterfalls in Africa, an unforgettable sight.

How much does a trip to Angola cost

Angola can be expensive, especially in Luanda. A meal at a mid-range restaurant is about 30 to 40 dollars per person. The country is largely cash-based, and cards, especially foreign ones, are mainly accepted at hotels and upscale restaurants. The currency is the Angolan kwanza. It is worth carrying cash outside the big cities.

When is the best time to visit Angola

The best time is June to October, when it is dry and temperatures are mild, around 24 to 26 degrees. June tends to be the most expensive month and October the cheapest. The rainy season falls outside this window and makes travel harder beyond the cities.

Getting to and around Angola

International flights land at the airport near Luanda, with connections from Dubai, Paris, Lisbon, Amsterdam and Johannesburg among others. You can enter overland from Namibia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo. Within cities, minibuses called candongueiros run without fixed fares. There are three rail lines and TAAG domestic flights. Intercity buses can be crowded, so for longer trips travellers often arrange a private transfer or a 4x4.
