Hotels in Cannes: prices, timing and areas

The heart of the resort is the seafront Croisette promenade, lined with palms and sandy beaches, while the yachts of the rich and famous moor along the Quai St. Pierre. The old Le Suquet quarter rises above the town, and the centre is full of designer shops, restaurants and casinos. Guests stay about four nights on average. The nearest airport is Nice Cote d'Azur, with a transfer into town. This list has 5 105 properties, from simple hotels to palatial five stars on the Croisette. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Cannes: the month and day of arrival, the choice of district and the standard of the property.
When to book a stay in Cannes for less
The cheapest month is January, in the depth of winter, before the seaside season starts. The priciest is May, during the Film Festival, when stars and journalists descend on the town and rates can run more than half as much again as usual. It is dear all summer too. The day of the week also matters. The cheapest night is Friday, while you pay the most on Wednesday. Cannes rewards booking ahead; you catch the best prices about two and a half months out, and for May you should book well in advance.

Which stay in Cannes suits whom
- First time in Cannes. The Centre Ville is most convenient, close to the Croisette and the Palais des Festivals. From here you can walk to the beaches, shops and restaurants without transport.
- For families. Apartments and hotels with family rooms a little further from the centre, in Carnot or La Bocca, give more space, with the beaches a short walk away.
- For couples. Boutique and palace hotels on the Croisette, such as the Carlton or Le Majestic, with a sea view and dinner by the beach. Everything is close by in the evening.
- With breakfast. Many hotels in the centre include breakfast, which helps you set off early for the beach or a walk along the Croisette before it gets crowded.
- With a view. Hotels on the Croisette with sea-facing rooms and places on the Le Suquet hill give a view of the bay and the harbour with its yachts. Handy for a short, atmospheric stay.
- Near the airport. Cannes is served by Nice Cote d'Azur airport, about half an hour away. Hotels nearer the main road and the station are handy for an early flight.
